Imagine being a child living in an orphanage, abandoned by your parents, receiving inadequate nutrition. Few or no medicines to relive your suffering when you are sick. No one who is dedicated just to you to tell you how special you are, to help you to learn to walk and talk and encourage you as you study and grow. Even if the caretakers at your orphanage are caring and loving, there are just too many children and too little money to change the situation.

The OrphanagesRight now, there are estimated to be over 100,000 children living in orphanages in Ukraine. Official numbers vary, and it is difficult to pinpoint the exact number. Reports from 100,000 to 150,000 exist, with 120,000 being the most commonly cited number. There are officially another 100,000 in state care, such as semi-orphanages and other forms of care. Whatever the final number, the reality for these children is bleak. More information >>
Caritas TranscarpathiaFounded in 1993, Caritas Transcarpathia is today a very important network of nongovernmental organisations in Transcarpathia that cares for people with social needs. Caritas is an organisation of the Roman-Catholic church; this of course does not mean that only members of the Catholic Church are helped. The organisation offers help and assistance to all people in need, regardless of religion or nationality. More information >>
